It was great to hear the impact the mentors have made so far. This article seeks to celebrate them as they are creating a place of connection, support, and growth. Programme Goals

The mentorship programme focuses on three core objectives:

1. Increasing Women's Representation at Senior and Lead Levels: By accelerating women's career growth, Entelect aims to diversify leadership and provide more role models for women in the industry.
2. Promoting a Culture of Inclusivity: The programme seeks to nurture an environment where women feel comfortable, respected, and valued.
3. Establishing a Safe Space for Professional Voice: Creating a community where women can openly discuss challenges and contribute innovative ideas that shape Entelect's future.

Programme Mechanics 

Women within Entelect can enrol as a mentor, mentee, or both through an internal system. The ElevateHer team then carefully matches participants based on their professional needs, subject expertise, and locations. 

The programme facilitators have a kick-off session with the mentors to ensure they feel empowered to guide their mentees. They also have regular check-ins with all pairings along their journeys to offer further support if needed.

Participant Experiences: Mentor Perspectives

Tsholo Pole, a Senior Software Engineer and mentor, shared her motivation: "I wanted to be the support I felt I needed when I started my career as a developer. My goal is to be a role model and inspire other women to grow within the tech industry."
She reflects on the mentorship experience: "Being involved in my mentee's growth has been immensely rewarding. I'm grateful for the opportunity to hear about her journey and guide her progress."

Elrize Sieberhagen, a fellow Senior Software Engineer and mentor, highlighted professional development benefits: "The mentorship programme has helped me refine my leadership skills, conduct effective one-on-one sessions, build relationships quickly, and support my mentee's growth by sharing my professional journey."
She added a personal touch: "Professionally and personally, we've shared significant milestones - from my first pregnancy to my mentee Danae's engagement. It's remarkable to celebrate each other's achievements and connect with fellow women at Entelect."

Jessica Cordier, a Junior Software Engineer, remarked on noticeable professional benefits: "The mentorship programme has been incredibly valuable. My technically skilled mentor has guided my growth as a Software Engineer, providing valuable resources and unbiased advice about my career goals. Thanks to the programme, I am now more ambitious and have established both short-term and long-term career objectives."

Nlwazi Ndlovu shared a powerful insight: "Growth truly occurs outside one's comfort zone. I've learned that attempting challenging and initially uncomfortable tasks is where the most significant personal development happens."

Beyond Mentorship: Holistic Support

Whilst mentorship remains the programme's cornerstone, ElevateHer has expanded to address multiple aspects of women's workplace experiences. Initiatives include:

  • Practical workplace support, such as sanitary products and full-length mirrors in bathrooms
  • Increased visibility for women leaders to inspire future generations
